About The Event

James Watt’s workshop and the Energy Hall at The Science Museum, London. A private conducted tour by Mr Ben Russell, curator of Mechanical Engineering at the Science Museum and the author of James Watt: Making the World Anew.

We are delighted that The Lunar Society has asked if we would like to join them on this fantastic guided tour.

We all know James Watt FRS, FRSE as the inventor who realised that contemporary steam engine designs wasted a great deal of energy by repeatedly cooling and reheating the cylinder. Watt introduced the separate condenser. This radically improved their power and cost-effectiveness. Eventually, his engine produced rotary motion, greatly broadening its use beyond pumping water. He also developed the concept of horsepower, the SI unit of power, the watt, is named after him.

Ticket cost: £10 via The Lunar Society on 01564 82 1582. or at info@lunarsociety.org.uk. (limited tickets available)
